Australian tour 2011

On 30 April and 1 May 2011, Sneha will be presenting concerts in the traditional Bharatanatyam style in Sydney and Melbourne, showcasing the range and scope of the dance form. This tour is sponsored by the ICCR and Sneha is travelling with four accompanying musicians from India.

Sneha will bring in various aspects of Bharatanatyam in her performance, from powerful and energetic pure dance, to steady poses and lucid abhinaya (interpretative dance). The pieces in her repertoire are like pearls taken from the depths of Indian mythology and philosophy, which she will attempt to weave in together. While in one piece, the nayika (the heroine), completely in love with Krishna, dotingly sings praises of his beauty and form. In the next piece, she transforms into an angry girlfriend, who cannot stand Krishna’s affairs with other women, and asks him to leave her house. Change is the only constant. All is flux; nothing stands still. In the Hindu philosophical thought, it is Shiva- Natraja, the lord of dance, who symbolizes change. He performs his cosmic dance to destroy a weary universe and make preparations to start the process of creation; tearing down in order to build again. Sneha will perform the frenzied dance of Shiva in the popular composition Natanam Adinar.

The musicians accompanying Sneha are:
